We are hoping that the good folk of Nottingham come to Meadow Lane on Sunday to find out a bit more about their rugby club.
We have dubbed our RFU Championship game with Leeds as the “Push for the Premiership”.
The club have set entry prices at £5 for adults and £1 for children.
They are fifth and only came down from the Premiership last season so it should be a cracking game.
We are really keen to increase our profile in the city and Nottingham folk know what an impressive team they have on their doorstep.
Nottingham is a big city and I have spoken to people before who had no idea there was a rugby club here, let alone a professional one which is playing at one level below the Premiership in a wonderful stadium like ours.
We have always had to battle against the fact that there are two big football clubs in the city, a very successful cricket team too and the Leicester Tigers just down the M1.
Even the ice hockey team here, the Panthers, have been one of the most successful teams in the country in recent times are regularly get 5,000 or 6,000 people go and watch them.
So we thought we would set prices low so costs are not an issue and just try and get as many people though the gates as possible. If they like what they see and enjoy not just the game but the social part around it, they may come back again.
And the response so far has been really good. We had already sold 1,300 tickets by the start of this week and with late sales and the walk-up market, we could get a really good crowd. Our average gate is around 1,500.
There are clearly people who are prepared to part with their hard-earned cash to come and watch live sport in the city. We are hoping that some of them are prepared to give rugby a go on Sunday.
We had better play well!
