TEN QUESTIONS
What is your dream position on the field and why? Probably hooker. You get all the confrontational aspects of the forward battle, whilst being free to play a bit in the loose. Also, the technical task of throwing into the lineout makes for an extra mental and physical challenge.

Who is the hardest person you have ever played with? A toss-up between Darren Garforth and Julian White. Honourable mention for Martin Corry as well.

Was your professional debut memorable or forgettable? Fairly memorable. Came off the bench for Saracens in the 1996 Anglo-Welsh cup away to Caerphilly, on a wet Friday night. Scored a try and we won the game. Not a bad start!

What are your redeeming features - physical? Absolutely none

What are your redeeming traits - personality? Is this a questionnaire for a rugby website or a dating agency?!
Best moment in rugby? Difficult to single out one, so I’ll go with 3 – 1) first England cap, 2) playing in the World Cup final, 3) beating Munster at Thomond Park in January 2007

Worst moment in rugby? Losing the 2004 Premiership Grand Final to Wasps. Martin Johnson, Neil Back and John Wells didn’t get the send-off they deserved.

Are you angry or a sulker in defeat? Both!! Hate losing more than I enjoy winning.

Which rugby player do you admire most from past or present? I’ve been lucky to have played with and against some of the true greats of the game. Phillippe Sella is still possibly the most professional player I’ve encountered. His preparation and dedication was, and is, a model for how to be the best, and I’m sure he could still play today! More modern players I admire would be Martin Johnson and Richie McCaw. Both would be in or around an all-time team in my book.

Where was your best rugby-related night out. Just place and venue please? Paris after the European Cup final in 2001. Aboard a boat on the River Seine. I think…
