Looking forward to the Aviva Premiership semi-finals I thought it would be interesting to see how the qualifying teams (Leicester Tigers, Saracens, Gloucester Rugby and Northampton Saints) matched up to each other and see if there was any indication of likely try scorers.
In the 2 league matches against Saints the Tigers scored five tries. The first time these two sides played each other happened to be right at the start of the season in round one. That day Saints won but both teams scored 3 tries. For Leicester Alex Tuilagi got one and Scott Hamilton two, and for Northampton Soane Tonga'uiha scored two and Mujati, all three Saints tries coming from props.
In the return bout (round 13) at Welford Road the score was almost reversed (27-16 compared to 27-16), though the try count was down a lot at with only 3 tries split 2-1 to Leicester. On the day it was Tigers who got their points from the forwards (Craig Newby and Marcos Ayerza) with the Saints try coming from three-quarter Ben Foden.
Four out of nine tries coming from the forward may not be to every fans liking but could over good value at the bookies.
