Bragging Rights at Stake

Everybody loves a good derby and there are plenty of those around these parts.

There is lots of history between the sides when we play Gloucester, Worcester is not that far away and bragging rights of the south west are at stake when Exeter arrive on Saturday.

At the start of the season, I think you would have got good money for putting them top of the Aviva Premiership after two weeks of action.

But they are a big bunch, head coach Rob Baxter knows how to get the best out of his side and I know from personal experience, that any team who can beat Leicester at Welford Road – as they did in week one - is worth their salt.

I am still gutted about our loss to Saracens last week.

With 45 seconds left, we had the game won.

Fair play to Sarries though. They got the ball back, broke downfield, won a penalty and kicked it.

We may have lost that game but we are in a good place, have been playing good rugby and are confident that we can get one over on Exeter.

I see the other boys on the Living Rugby blog have been talking about nicknames this week.

As a general rule, we are pretty rubbish at nicknames as rugby players. The usual format involves adding a ‘y’, ‘o’ or ‘s’ to someone’s name. At Bath, that makes Tom Biggs, ‘Biggsy’ and Dave Flatman ‘Flats’.

Clever eh? I thought we were supposed to be brainier than footballers!

There have been some good ones though.

And someone like our new signing from Sale, Carl Fearns, has two!

He loves it when we call him “Inferno” as in In-Fearn-o. Get it?

Because he loves that so much, we started calling him, “Buble” as in the singer Michael, after his less-than-rock-n-roll music tastes got out.

Unfortunately, he likes that too!
